Blumenwalzer A. D. Nußknacker-Suite / Walzer A. D. Ballett "Dornröschen"

Released in 1967 by the East German state-owned record label ETERNA, this recording captures two of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s most beloved orchestral works: the 'Waltz of the Flowers' from The Nutcracker Suite and the waltz from The Sleeping Beauty. It features the Staatskapelle Berlin, one of the world's oldest and most prestigious orchestras, under the baton of conductor Horst Stein. Produced during the height of the Cold War, the record served as part of ETERNA's extensive mission to make high-quality classical music accessible to the public within the German Democratic Republic.

The record label ETERNA was renowned for its high production standards and its role as a cultural flagship for East Germany. The design reflects the austere yet elegant aesthetic common to the label's mid-century classical series, focusing on clear, functional typography and iconic imagery that emphasized the grandeur of the compositions. These recordings are frequently cited by collectors for their warm, spacious soundscapes, a hallmark of the engineers working in the venues accessible to the Staatskapelle Berlin during that period.
