Chant Grégorien - Chants De Pentecôte

Released in 1970 on the Decca label, this recording of Chants de Pentecôte features the Chœur des Moines de l'Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes under the direction of Dom Joseph Gajard. The album serves as a liturgical document, capturing the solemn and meditative tradition of Gregorian chant performed by the monks of Solesmes Abbey in France, a location renowned for its role in the 19th-century restoration of chant performance practice.

The aesthetic and technical approach of this series emphasizes the authentic monastic style characterized by fluid, speech-like rhythm that avoids the rigid meter often applied to Western classical music. Dom Joseph Gajard was instrumental in refining the choir's interpretation based on the abbey's extensive research into neumatic notation. Upon release, these recordings were widely received by musicologists and religious scholars as definitive benchmarks for the preservation of medieval plainchant.
