Where it came from
Chant Grégorien de Noël was recorded by the Benedictine monks of Saint-Benoît-du-Lac, a monastery situated in Quebec, Canada, known for its commitment to traditional liturgical music. The recording serves as a meditative preservation of the Gregorian chant repertoire, specifically curated for the Christmas season to offer listeners a glimpse into the contemplative life and spiritual practice of the monastic community.
The album is representative of the independent recording efforts undertaken by the abbey to share their musical heritage with a wider audience. The production focuses on the raw, acoustic resonance of the monks' voices within the abbey's chapel, prioritizing an authentic liturgical experience over modern studio artifice. It remains a staple for enthusiasts of sacred vocal music who value the historical continuity and atmospheric tranquility of Gregorian chants.
