Chant Grégorien - Messe De La Pentecôte / Messe De La Fête Dieu

This recording features the Chœur des Moines de l'Abbaye Saint-Pierre de Solesmes, an ensemble world-renowned for their preservation and performance of Gregorian chant. Under the direction of Dom Jean Claire, who served as the choir master for decades, the monks practiced a rhythmic interpretation of plainsong that became the international benchmark for the Solesmes method. This recording was produced during a period when the abbey was actively documenting the liturgical repertoire to ensure the survival of traditional monastic musical practices amidst the shifting musical landscape of the mid-20th century.

Released under the Festival Classique label, this record highlights two significant feasts of the liturgical calendar: Pentecost and Corpus Christi. The design and production prioritized acoustic authenticity, capturing the reverberant atmosphere of the abbey to recreate the meditative experience of the liturgy. The recordings from Solesmes were highly regarded by musicologists and liturgical scholars for their rigorous adherence to historical manuscript traditions and were widely distributed to provide parishes and scholars alike with an authoritative reference for monophonic chant performance.
