Chant Grégorien - Vepres de la Sainte-Trinité - Salut du Saint-Sacrement

This recording emerged from the long-standing collaboration between the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Saint-Pierre de Solesmes and the Decca label. Established in the 1950s, this partnership was dedicated to preserving the purity of the Solesmes tradition of Gregorian chant, which had become the international benchmark for the interpretation of early liturgical music. Under the direction of Dom Jean Claire, this 1972 release focuses on the Vesper liturgy for Trinity Sunday and the Rite of Benediction, reflecting the monks' commitment to maintaining the monastic daily office as a living musical tradition.

The production process emphasized acoustic transparency, utilizing the natural resonance of the abbey to capture an authentic, meditative soundscape. The design and presentation were intentionally understated, favoring academic rigor over commercial spectacle, which helped the record find a dedicated audience among musicologists and religious institutions. By the time this specific pressing was released, the Solesmes choir had already achieved significant international recognition for their precise, rhythmically fluid style, solidifying their reputation as the primary authorities on the restoration of plainsong.
