Gling-Gló

Originally recorded in 1990 and first released that same year, Gling-Gló represents a unique detour in Björk Guðmundsdóttir’s early career. Shortly before her international breakthrough as a solo pop artist, she collaborated with the Tríó Guðmundar Ingólfssonar, an established Icelandic jazz group, to record a selection of jazz standards translated into Icelandic along with a few original compositions. The project was intended as a lighthearted tribute to the cool jazz era, showcasing Björk’s vocal versatility in a traditional acoustic setting.

The 2005 release, catalog number OLI 061, served as a reissue by One Little Indian to make the celebrated album available to a wider global audience during the height of Björk’s worldwide fame. The design maintains the intimate, minimalist aesthetic of the original 1990 release, featuring a stark black-and-white cover portrait that emphasizes the band's focused, studio-based performance. Upon its initial debut, the album was well-received by critics and domestic listeners for its playful charm and sophisticated arrangements, eventually becoming the best-selling jazz album in Icelandic history.
