Gregorianischer Choral = Gregorian Chant = Chant Grégorien (Benediktiner-Kloster = Benedictine Monastery = Monastère Des Bénédictins Montserrat)

Released in 1974 by the prestigious Archiv Produktion label, this recording captures the liturgical chants performed by the Escolania de Montserrat, one of the oldest boys' choirs in the world, located at the Santa Maria de Montserrat abbey in Catalonia. Under the musical direction of Gregori Estrada, the album was produced to capture the authentic, meditative sound of Gregorian chant within the resonant acoustic environment of the Benedictine monastery, serving both a liturgical purpose and a preservationist effort for classical music collectors.

The album reflects Archiv Produktion's commitment to musicological rigor and high-fidelity historical performance practices. The design and production were overseen by the label's dedicated team, who favored minimalist, scholarly packaging that emphasized the sanctity and age of the source material. Upon its release, the recording was well-received by critics for its clarity and the choir's disciplined, nuanced delivery, solidifying its place as a staple of the liturgical catalog throughout the late 20th century.
