Where it came from
Released in 1998 on the On The One label, Lamifa Presente 360° serves as a representative artifact of the late nineties underground hip-hop and downtempo scene. The compilation was curated to showcase a collective of emerging artists, functioning as a sonic manifesto for the label's aesthetic during a period when independent labels were becoming vital conduits for experimental urban music.
The design of the record, cataloged as OTO 360 LP, reflects the minimalist and often stark visual language common to independent vinyl releases of that era. By focusing on a 360-degree thematic approach to production, the contributors aimed to highlight a diverse range of regional sounds, resulting in a release that was received primarily by crate-diggers and local scene enthusiasts as a snapshot of a specific, transient moment in independent electronic and rap production.
