Where it came from
Released in 2016 on the Dinked label, Lamine’s Police Woman is a project that highlights the intersection of independent hip-hop and crate-digging culture. The record was produced in collaboration with DJ D.S.K. and The Lost Soul Collective, reflecting a distinct underground aesthetic that prioritizes atmospheric production and gritty, narrative-driven lyricism. As a part of the Dinked catalog, which is known for its focus on 7-inch vinyl releases, this record serves as an example of the label's commitment to supporting niche artists within the broader boom-bap and soul-sampling movement.
The visual design and sonic direction of the release were crafted to evoke a classic, noir-inspired sensibility. DJ D.S.K. utilized soulful loops and crisp percussion to provide a backdrop that complements the conceptual themes explored by Lamine. Upon its release, the record found a dedicated audience among vinyl enthusiasts and fans of independent hip-hop, often being cited for its intentional lo-fi warmth and the cohesive artistic vision established by the collective throughout the recording process.
