Orient-Occident / Momenti - Omaggio A Joyce / Continuo / Transition 1

Released in 1970 on the Philips label, this collection brings together seminal works of the European avant-garde and electronic music scenes of the 1960s. The record serves as a testament to the experimental vigor of the era, featuring Iannis Xenakis’s 'Orient-Occident,' which was originally composed as a soundtrack for a UNESCO film, alongside significant contributions from Luciano Berio, Bruno Maderna, and Mauricio Kagel.

The album is a quintessential document of the 'musique concrète' and electronic composition movements fostered by institutions like the Studio di Fonologia in Milan and the Groupe de Recherches Musicales in Paris. By presenting these pieces together, the release highlighted a shift toward architectural and mathematical approaches to sound, aiming to dismantle traditional harmonic structures in favor of spatial, textural, and transformative auditory experiences that defined the intellectual landscape of post-war modernism.
