Where it came from
Rythmique Grégorienne is a liturgical recording produced by the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Saint-Benoît-du-Lac in Quebec, Canada. Created to serve as both an educational resource and a meditative companion, the record captures the specific interpretation of Gregorian chant championed by the Solesmes school of musicology, which emphasizes fluid, oratorical rhythm over rigid metrical structures.
The recording reflects the monastery's long-standing dedication to preserving Latin plainchant as a central pillar of their communal life. The presentation is intentionally modest, prioritizing the acoustic environment of the abbey's church to convey a sense of spiritual continuity. While distributed primarily through the abbey’s own channels, the collection has been well-regarded by scholars of sacred music and monastic history for its authentic commitment to the liturgical tradition of the Benedictine order.
