Schwanensee-Suite Op. 20 / Suite Aus Dornröschen Op. 66a / Polonaise Aus Eugen Onegin

Released in 1964 on the East German Eterna label, this recording showcases the Orkiestra Symfoniczna Filharmonii Narodowej under the baton of Witold Rowicki. Eterna, the state-owned record label of the German Democratic Republic, played a critical role in documenting the Eastern Bloc's interpretation of the core classical repertoire, often highlighting collaborations with prominent Polish and Soviet ensembles that were highly regarded for their technical precision and stylistic fidelity to the Romantic era.

The recording pairs Tchaikovsky’s celebrated ballet suites with the Polonaise from Eugen Onegin, reflecting a standard mid-century approach to program curation for classical vinyl releases. The design and production reflect the aesthetic standards of VEB Deutsche Schallplatten Berlin, focusing on archival quality and the promotion of established orchestral traditions. Rowicki’s conducting style, noted for its clarity and structural balance, was well-received by critics of the period as a definitive, no-nonsense exploration of Tchaikovsky’s orchestrations.
