Schwanensee-Suite Op. 20 / Suite Aus Dornröschen Op. 66a / Polonaise Aus Eugen Onegin

This 1961 recording was released by the East German label ETERNA, a subsidiary of VEB Deutsche Schallplatten. It features the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Polish conductor Witold Rowicki, capturing Tchaikovsky's most beloved ballet suites alongside his signature polonaise. This release reflects the mid-century tradition of state-sponsored recording projects in the Eastern Bloc, which often aimed to showcase high-fidelity orchestral standards for classical repertoire.

The design of ETERNA releases from this era typically favored minimalist, professional aesthetics that highlighted the prestige of the ensemble and the composer. Rowicki was widely respected for his precise, idiomatic interpretations of Romantic music, and his collaboration with the Warsaw National Philharmonic was highly regarded for its clarity and expressive nuance. The recording remains a significant document of the cultural exchange and technical standards maintained by European orchestras during the Cold War era.
