Schwanensee-Suite Op. 20 / Suite Aus Dornröschen Op. 66a / Polonaise Aus Eugen Onegin

This 1965 release by the ETERNA label features the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of conductor Witold Rowicki. The record was produced in the German Democratic Republic, serving as part of ETERNA's extensive effort to bring high-quality classical recordings to Eastern Bloc audiences. By pairing Tchaikovsky's most beloved ballet suites with the Polonaise from Eugene Onegin, the compilation highlights the late Romantic orchestral mastery that characterized Rowicki's interpretive style during his tenure in Poland.

The design follows the characteristic aesthetic of mid-century ETERNA releases, which often utilized understated, elegant typography and minimalist cover art to maintain a consistent brand identity across their classical catalog. Rowicki, a central figure in the development of Polish orchestral excellence, was known for his precise, rhythmically driven approach to Tchaikovsky’s scores. This specific pressing was well-regarded for its technical fidelity within the constraints of the era's recording technology, remaining a staple for collectors interested in the postwar Polish-German cultural exchange of classical music.
