Schwanensee (Swan Lake) / Dornröschen (The Sleeping Beauty)

This 1975 release of Tchaikovsky’s ballet suites features the Berliner Philharmoniker under the baton of Herbert von Karajan. It was issued by the South Korean label Sung Eum Limited, a company that played a significant role in making Western classical music recordings accessible to the domestic market during the mid-20th century, often through licensing agreements with major international labels like Deutsche Grammophon.

The recording showcases the precise, high-fidelity sound characteristic of Karajan’s mid-seventies tenure in Berlin, a period marked by his pursuit of a lush, expansive orchestral texture. The cover design and curation were part of Sung Eum's effort to provide high-quality pressings of iconic European performances for classical music enthusiasts in Korea, cementing Karajan’s reputation as the definitive interpreter of Romantic-era ballet scores for a global audience.
