Where it came from
Released in 2013 by the reissue label Pharaway Sounds, Sedayeh Del is a curated compilation that highlights the vibrant, eclectic music scene of pre-revolutionary Iran. The collection gathers tracks from the 1960s and 1970s, a period marked by the unique fusion of traditional Persian melodies with Western pop, funk, and psychedelic rock influences. By selecting these rare recordings, the label aimed to preserve the artistic ingenuity of an era that was effectively silenced by the cultural shifts following the 1979 revolution.
The album art and track selection reflect a deep-dive archival effort to move beyond the well-known names of the genre, offering listeners a cross-section of the Tehran club and studio scene. The compilation was praised by music critics and ethnomusicologists for its high-quality restoration of obscure vinyl sources, providing a crucial entry point for international audiences to discover the sophisticated arrangements and cross-cultural experimentation that defined this specific moment in Iranian musical history.
