Where it came from
Released in 1955 by La Voix de Son Maître, Sélection Nº 2 - Voulez-Vous Danser?... served as a quintessential mid-century compilation intended for the social atmosphere of the era. Produced during a period when the French label was cementing its status as a premier purveyor of both classical and popular music, the album functioned as an inviting collection of dance-oriented tracks designed to capture the refined, upbeat spirit of post-war Parisian nightlife.
The album reflects the era's focus on curated listening experiences, with cover art and selection choices mirroring the sophisticated aesthetic sensibilities of 1950s France. While the specific personnel behind the compilation's curation remain largely anonymous, the record fits squarely into the 'Sélection' series, which was marketed to households looking to bring the ambiance of a formal dance hall into their own living rooms. It remains a documented example of the era's industry practice of packaging hit singles and orchestral arrangements for the burgeoning domestic long-play market.
