Sinfonía Fausto • Los Preludios Eine Faust-Sinfonie • Les Préludes

Released in 1963 by Deutsche Grammophon, this double LP set features two of Franz Liszt's most significant orchestral works: A Faust Symphony and Les Préludes. The recording captures the intensity of the mid-20th century European interpretive tradition, pairing the Hungarian conductor János Ferencsik, who leads the Budapest State Orchestra for the symphony, with Ferenc Fricsay, who directs the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra for the symphonic poem.

The Deutsche Grammophon label, known for its high-fidelity standards during the stereo era, sought to emphasize the dramatic narrative structures of Liszt's romanticism. The album design reflects the quintessential aesthetic of the period, featuring the classic yellow banner and meticulous technical presentation that defined the label's prestige. It remains a hallmark of the catalog for its juxtaposition of these two cornerstone compositions under the guidance of conductors deeply rooted in the Lisztian tradition.
