Soa Randranao / An-Tsena

Released in 1974 on the Kaya-Lami label, the 45-rpm single featuring Soa Randranao and An-Tsena represents a specific window in the development of Malagasy popular music. Produced during a period of transition in Madagascar's cultural landscape, the record captures the distinct regional sound cultivated by the artist known as Osy. Like many regional productions of this era, the release was designed to serve local dance halls and radio programs, reflecting a synthesis of traditional Malagasy melodic structures and the emerging electrified instrumentation common to the 1970s pop scene.

The design of the Kaya-Lami label releases was characteristically functional, prioritizing accessibility for local listeners while documenting the regional vernacular. Osy utilized the catalog number KAY 361 to mark this entry in what was a modest but culturally significant catalog of local records. Though documentation regarding the specific visual design team is scarce, the release is widely regarded by collectors of African vinyl as an authentic artifact of the era, appreciated for its preservation of a regional musical identity that remained largely insulated from the international music industry at the time.
