Sonates Pour Piano & Violon Op. 100 Et 108

Released in 1984 by the French independent label Harmonia Mundi, this recording features the second and third violin sonatas by Johannes Brahms, performed by pianist Jean-Claude Pennetier and violinist Régis Pasquier. The album is part of the esteemed Harmonia Mundi catalog, which gained international renown during the 1980s for its commitment to high-fidelity audio engineering and its focus on chamber music repertoire captured with a natural, resonant acoustic perspective.

The collaboration between Pennetier and Pasquier is characterized by an understated, lyrical approach that emphasizes the complex emotional architecture of Brahms’s late romantic period. Critics of the era frequently lauded this partnership for its structural clarity and the nuanced dialogue maintained between the piano and violin, reflecting a performance tradition that favored internal cohesion over overt displays of virtuosity. The release remains a documented example of the artistic synergy fostered within the French chamber music scene during the late twentieth century.
