Symphonien Nr.1 Es-dur KV 16 / Nr. 4 D-dur Kv 19 / Nr.5 Bdur KV 22 F Dur KV 76 / Nr.6 F-dur KV 43

This 1968 release by Nippon Grammophon Co., Ltd. captures Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s early symphonies as interpreted by Karl Böhm and the Berliner Philharmoniker. Recorded as part of a broader Deutsche Grammophon initiative to document Mozart’s complete symphonic works under Böhm’s direction, the project was critically lauded for its structural clarity, disciplined ensemble precision, and a Germanic approach that favored rhythmic vigor over the lighter period-instrument aesthetic that would later rise to prominence.

The design of the MG 2215 Japanese pressing reflects the period’s high-fidelity production standards, featuring the distinct visual branding associated with the Nippon Grammophon partnership. Karl Böhm was a long-standing collaborator with the Berliner Philharmoniker, and their partnership in the late 1960s is widely regarded as a definitive standard-bearer for mid-century Mozart interpretation. The records were manufactured to serve the growing Japanese interest in high-quality Western classical music imports, maintaining the original artistic vision of the German-led sessions while ensuring technical fidelity for local audiophile markets.
