Where it came from
Released in 1991 on the Electrecord label, Un Virtuose De Violon showcases the exceptional talents of Ion Albeșteanu, a prominent figure in Romanian folk music. This recording was produced during a significant period of transition for Romania, capturing the traditional lăutari style that Albeșteanu spent his career preserving. The record serves as a testament to the virtuosic violin techniques characteristic of the Wallachian folk tradition, emphasizing the expressive, improvisational nature of the genre.
The album features arrangements designed to highlight Albeșteanu's technical precision and emotional range, reflecting his deep immersion in the lăutar musical heritage. Electrecord, Romania's historic state-owned label, played a vital role in documenting these regional performances throughout the late 20th century. While the release was intended to provide a permanent record of his craft for folk music enthusiasts, it is now regarded by ethnomusicologists and vinyl collectors as an essential artifact of Romanian instrumental folk music.
