Where it came from
Released on the Beverly label, Valsas & Polcas features the collaborative work of Régis and Rogério Duprat. This record emerged from a period in Brazilian music history characterized by a deep interest in preserving and reinterpreting traditional salon music forms, specifically the waltzes and polkas that permeated Brazilian social culture during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The arrangement style reflects Rogério Duprat’s background as a sophisticated orchestrator, known for his work in the Tropicália movement, brought here to a more classical and nostalgic repertoire. The design of the record was intended to evoke a sense of period-authentic charm, presenting these instrumental pieces as both a scholarly project and a refined listening experience for the mid-century Brazilian audience.
