X-tra X-tra (Autobahn 5)

Released in 1984 under the CNR label, X-tra X-tra (Autobahn 5) represents a specific slice of the mid-eighties European electronic and synth-pop landscape. The track was a collaborative effort between Musix and the renowned Dutch pianist Louis van Dijk, who brought a sophisticated, layered approach to the dance-oriented production of the era. This release was emblematic of the period's experimental crossover between traditional keyboard musicianship and the burgeoning interest in programmed electronic textures.

The design and composition reflect the technical curiosity of the mid-1980s, where producers sought to blend high-energy dance motifs with the melodic sensibilities of established artists like van Dijk. While Musix provided the pulse and foundational arrangement, van Dijk’s involvement lent the project a distinctive, polished aesthetic that stood out from standard club fare. Upon its release, it served as a niche contribution to the European electronic catalog, appreciated by those tracking the evolution of synthesized soundscapes during the transition into the late eighties.
