X/PERIENCE

Released in 2021 on the Black Studies imprint, X/PERIENCE represents a significant entry in Lamin Fofana's discography, synthesizing his ongoing investigation into the Black experience through the lens of electronic music and sound art. Fofana, a Sierra Leonean producer and artist, conceptualized the project as a multi-layered exploration of historical and contemporary themes, utilizing abstract soundscapes, field recordings, and manipulated textures to evoke complex socio-political narratives.

The album reflects Fofana’s signature approach of blending club-adjacent rhythms with ambient experimentation, a style that has established him as a distinct voice in contemporary electronic music. The production is characterized by its intentional, sparse aesthetic, designed to invite deep listening rather than simple consumption. Upon its release, it was noted for its departure from traditional song structures, garnering praise from critics who identified it as a mature evolution of the experimental discourse Fofana has been developing throughout his career.
