Cyber Dragon

Cyber Dragon was first released in the 2005 Cybernetic Revolution set, fundamentally shifting the mechanics of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. Designed to break the game's dependence on traditional tribute summoning, its ability to be special summoned directly from the hand if only the opponent controlled a monster made it a staple in competitive play for years. This particular version, found in the 2007 Dark Revelation Volume 4 compilation set, serves as a high-rarity reprint intended to make influential staples available to a broader audience during that era of the game's growth.

The card's aesthetic, characterized by its sleek, mechanical aesthetic and cold blue energy, was designed to emphasize its identity as a cutting-edge technological weapon. Kazuki Takahashi, the creator of Yu-Gi-Oh!, oversaw the general visual direction of the series, ensuring that the Cyber Dragon stood out as a thematic departure from the mystical or fantasy-based dragons of the early sets. Its reception was immediate and overwhelming, as it transformed board states instantly and forced players to adjust their defensive strategies to account for the ever-present threat of its summoning condition.
