Dark Hole

Dark Hole was originally released in the earliest days of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game, serving as one of the most powerful and feared board-clearing spells in the history of the game. Its design is deceptively simple: a black, swirling void that removes every monster from the field. Because of its raw efficiency, the card became a cornerstone of competitive play, oscillating between being fully unrestricted and completely banned from tournament decks as game developers sought to balance its devastating potential.

The YS17-EN023 version appearing in the 2017 Starter Deck: Link Strike was issued to reintroduce newer players to legacy cards that defined the game's identity. By including this classic common-rarity spell in a modern deck centered on the Link Summoning mechanic, the designers ensured that new duelists had access to a foundational removal tool. Its inclusion reflects the enduring design philosophy of the game, where certain elemental effects remain evergreen regardless of the evolving ruleset.
