Lore

Why it matters

As a spell card from the Enemy of Justice set, Dimensional Fissure serves as a tactical tool that banishes monsters instead of sending them to the graveyard. This mechanic effectively disrupts strategies that rely on recycling or triggering graveyard-based effects, making it a reliable utility card for controlling the state of the field.

Provenance

Where it came from

Dimensional Fissure was first released in the 2006 Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game expansion set Enemy of Justice. The card was designed to support a shift in game mechanics that punished players for sending cards to the graveyard, effectively acting as a counter to strategies reliant on resource recycling and graveyard-based summon effects.

The artwork features a conceptual depiction of a portal tearing through reality, mirroring the card's function of banishing monsters that would otherwise reach the graveyard. As a common rarity card, it was widely accessible to players during its initial release, becoming a staple tool in competitive control decks and maintaining a significant influence on the game's tactical landscape for years.
