Where it came from
Fissure was released in the original Starter Deck: Yugi in 2002, marking the introduction of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game to the Western market. As a staple spell card in the early game, it served as a fundamental tool for board control, allowing players to destroy the face-up monster with the lowest ATK on their opponent's side of the field.
The card’s minimalist design reflects the utilitarian aesthetic of the early TCG era. It features artwork depicting a character falling into a chasm, which captures the card's function of removal. Because it was a common card included in a starter deck designed to teach beginners the mechanics of the game, it became one of the most recognizable and widely distributed cards in the franchise's history.
