Forbidden Lance

Forbidden Lance was first introduced as part of the Storm of Ragnarok set in early 2011, quickly becoming a staple in the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game due to its versatile utility. It functions as a Quick-Play Spell that allows a player to protect their monster from other Spell or Trap effects while simultaneously reducing its attack points, providing a tactical choice between offense and survival. The card later appeared as a reprint in the 2014 Noble Knights of the Round Table Power-Up Pack, which was released to support the thematic Noble Knight archetype by consolidating essential support cards into a single collection.

The design of the card leans into the 'Forbidden' aesthetic common to the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe, featuring dark, ethereal imagery that hints at the cost of wielding such power. Konami's design team intended for the card to act as a reactive tool, allowing players to counter common back-row threats like Mirror Force or Bottomless Trap Hole.
