Provenance

Where it came from

Forbidden Lance was first introduced to the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game in 2011 as part of the Storm of Ragnarok booster set. It was designed as a versatile Quick-Play Spell card meant to provide players with a strategic way to protect their monsters from targeted Spell or Trap effects at the cost of a reduction in attack points, reflecting a high-risk, high-reward tactical balance.

The reprint in Battle Pack 2: War of the Giants, numbered BP02-EN162, was released in 2013 as part of a draft-focused set designed to capture the scale of iconic monsters from the franchise's lore. Featuring a common rarity in this release, the card solidified its position as a staple in competitive play for years, favored for its utility in both offensive pushes and defensive maneuvers during the game's evolving meta.
