Change of Heart

Change of Heart first appeared in the early days of the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game as a staple spell card. Its design allows a player to take control of an opponent's monster for a single turn, reflecting the thematic concept of manipulating an adversary's forces. Originally printed in the Metal Raiders set, its inclusion in Dark Beginning 1 served as a reprint that allowed newer players to access foundational cards from the game's competitive history.

The card features artwork that depicts a mystical, swirling portal or heart-like symbol, characteristic of the darker, gothic aesthetic prevalent in early Konami card designs. While the card became a defining element of classic play, its powerful effect eventually led to it being heavily restricted or outright banned in competitive tournament formats for long periods, cementing its reputation as one of the most iconic and controversial spells in the franchise.
