Where it came from
CoCo & NiCO premiered in 2016 as a series of short-form anime episodes produced by Kachidoki Studio. The series was designed to showcase the capabilities of the studio's proprietary motion-capture software, utilizing a distinct, simplified aesthetic that prioritizes fluid, albeit limited, animation techniques common in digital-first web series of that era.
The character designs and narrative direction were centered on two anthropomorphic protagonists, designed to appeal to a younger audience through short, slapstick-driven segments. While the series received modest attention within niche online animation communities, it is primarily recognized by animation historians as a technical experiment in mid-2010s digital production workflows rather than a traditional narrative-focused commercial success.
