The sole surviving human and her canine companion, Haru, wander a desolate wasteland after the destruction of civilization, but this is no dark doomsday tale. Haru, a wise-beyond-his-years talking shiba inu, makes sure his master stays one step ahead of post-apocalyptic pessimism with his clever antics, hilarious observations and philosophical ponderings. She may be the last girl on earth, but with Haru at her side, the road through the apocalypse will never be boring!

Where it came from
Doomsday with My Dog, or Sekai Saigo no Hi ni Neko to, is a 2022 original net animation series produced by the studio DLE. The series is based on a web manga by Yuuya Kura and depicts a post-apocalyptic world where a young woman travels through a desolate landscape accompanied by her cynical, talking Shiba Inu. The production leans into a minimalist aesthetic, utilizing a restrained visual style that emphasizes the quiet, existential tone of the original source material.
The adaptation was developed as a series of short-form vignettes, prioritizing a reflective atmosphere over traditional narrative pacing. The production team aimed to capture the interplay between the protagonist’s pragmatic approach to survival and the dog’s humorous, often philosophical commentary on their circumstances. Upon its release, it was noted for its ability to maintain a gentle, slice-of-life sensibility within the unconventional setting of the end of the world.
