Dorami-chan: Aoi Straw Hat

Released in March 1994, Dorami-chan: Aoi Straw Hat was the third theatrical short film to feature Dorami, the younger sister of the iconic robotic cat Doraemon. The film emerged during a period when the Doraemon franchise was firmly established in Japanese cinema as a staple of the annual spring film season, produced by Shin-Ei Animation. It was designed to provide a lighter, standalone adventure that captured the playful and helpful personality of Dorami, who serves as a more competent, albeit occasionally fussy, counterpart to her brother.

The production sought to highlight Dorami’s specific character dynamics within the 22nd-century setting of the series. Like other entries in the franchise, the short utilized the recognizable character designs established by Fujiko F. Fujio, focusing on themes of friendship and problem-solving through futuristic gadgets. While it follows the standard visual aesthetic of 1990s cel-animated anime, it remains a notable piece for fans of the wider Doraemon Expanded Universe, representing the studio's effort to expand the character’s screen presence beyond the main series.
