Where it came from
The Green Da Ka Ra and Bakemono no Ko collaboration project emerged in 2015 as part of a promotional campaign for Mamoru Hosoda’s feature film The Boy and the Beast. Produced by Studio Chizu, this short-form animated content served to bridge the whimsical, nature-inspired branding of the Suntory Green Da Ka Ra beverage line with the thematic elements of Hosoda’s cinematic universe, which often explores growth, mentorship, and the intersection of human and fantastical worlds.
The design of these short spots leveraged the signature visual aesthetic of Studio Chizu, characterized by fluid animation and a soft, painterly color palette that aligns with the refreshing, organic marketing approach of the drink. Directed with the oversight of Hosoda’s team, these shorts were received as charming curiosities by fans of his filmography, effectively utilizing the character designs of the film to evoke a sense of familial warmth and vitality that matched the product's healthy, natural identity.
