Where it came from
Naze Nani!? Asterisk is a series of short promotional original net animation episodes released in 2016 to accompany the broadcast of the anime series The Asterisk War. Produced by A-1 Pictures, these vignettes were designed as lighthearted, meta-textual segments meant to provide supplementary context and character trivia that did not fit into the primary narrative flow of the main show.
The animation style is noticeably distinct from the main series, favoring a simplified, chibi-inspired aesthetic that emphasizes humor and character interaction. By utilizing this format, the production team aimed to deepen viewer engagement and provide a relaxed counterpoint to the high-stakes action of the core series. It was received by the fanbase as a modest, complementary curiosity intended primarily for dedicated followers of the franchise.
