Where it came from
Released in 2021 as a series of three short episodes, Gekokujou serves as a specialized spin-off within the Osomatsu-san franchise. The project was designed to capitalize on the manic, absurdist humor that defined the 2015 series revival, focusing on the sextuplets attempting to overthrow their own creator in a meta-narrative style typical of the show's subversive approach to animation tropes.
The production maintains the signature aesthetic established by Studio Pierrot, characterized by vibrant colors and shifting art styles that shift from traditional anime polish to intentionally crude doodles. While this project was aimed primarily at the dedicated fanbase following the third season, it was received as a brief, comedic experiment that highlights the franchise's enduring commitment to self-referential comedy and fourth-wall breaking.
