Where it came from
Released in 2022 to commemorate the sixth anniversary of the Osomatsu-san franchise, this feature-length film serves as the first entry in a planned series of anniversary specials. Produced by Studio Pierrot, the film explores the six Matsuno brothers as they embark on a surreal adventure to a mysterious island in search of a fruit capable of granting any wish, maintaining the franchise's signature blend of chaotic slapstick and irreverent humor.
The film retains the high-energy, colorful aesthetic that Studio Pierrot established during the 2015 revival of the classic Fujio Akatsuka characters. By centering the narrative on the brothers' signature idiosyncrasies while placing them in an atypical fantasy setting, the production team aimed to bridge the gap between episodic television antics and cinematic storytelling, receiving generally positive recognition from fans for its commitment to the established, offbeat tone of the series.
