Where it came from
The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup was produced by Studio M.S.C and released in 2022 as a continuation of the long-running sports franchise created by Takeshi Konomi. This installment adapts the U-17 World Cup arc from the manga, following Ryoma Echizen as he navigates the high-stakes international tournament after being expelled from the Japanese training camp and joining the U.S. team.
The animation reflects the series' signature shift toward increasingly supernatural and hyper-stylized tennis maneuvers, a departure from the more grounded realism of its early chapters. While it faced some criticism for the evolution of its art style and the absurdity of its power scaling, it was received as a nostalgic return for established fans, maintaining the franchise’s focus on intense competitive drama and character-driven rivalries.
