Where it came from
The Shower is a short-form animated piece produced by the studio Meditation With a Pencil, which gained recognition for its minimalist aesthetic and meditative approach to storytelling. Emerging from a contemporary independent animation scene that favors introspective, sensory-driven narratives, the work was crafted to evoke the fleeting, often overlooked intimacy of a daily ritual. By stripping away complex dialogue in favor of rhythmic visual pacing, the studio sought to create an immersive experience that resonates with the viewer’s personal stillness.
The design of The Shower leans heavily into line art and muted palettes, emphasizing texture and light to convey atmosphere. The creators focused on a hand-drawn style to lend the piece a human quality that digital software often struggles to replicate. Upon its release, the film was noted by critics for its successful marriage of technical restraint and emotional depth, securing a niche but dedicated following among animation enthusiasts who value art-house sensibilities over traditional plot-heavy structures.
