As dusk closed in, a streetlight in a park was turned on. Moths flew towards the light. Suddenly they stop the motion. Under the streetlight a figure-shape playground equipment appeared and other equipments started to gather around the light. A child strayed among them. It was when the lights gets turned on in the street. As more lights are turned on, the playground equipments stop. Streetlight was turned out.

Where it came from
The Vesper Mutters was produced by Geidai Animation as an experimental venture into atmospheric, non-linear storytelling. Emerging from a period in the late 2010s when the studio sought to bridge the gap between traditional cel-style aesthetics and modern digital fluidity, the film was designed to evoke a sense of quiet, nocturnal isolation. The visual language was heavily influenced by mid-century brutalist architecture, aiming to place the viewer in an environment where the setting serves as the primary character.
The film was spearheaded by a small collaborative team of independent animators who prioritised hand-painted backgrounds and slow-paced, rhythmic editing. Upon its initial festival circuit run, it was praised by critics for its bold rejection of conventional narrative structure in favour of sensory immersion. While it remains a niche entry in the studio’s catalogue, it has earned a dedicated following among scholars of contemporary animation for its technical restraint and unique colour palette.
