Where it came from
Twittering Birds Never Fly: Don't Stay Gold is a 2021 original video animation that serves as a prequel to the 2020 feature film adaptation of Kou Yoneda's celebrated manga series. Produced by studio GRIZZLY, the work was crafted to explore the foundational relationship between the two central protagonists, Yashiro and Doumeki, providing crucial context to the emotional landscape established in the main narrative.
The animation reflects the dark, atmospheric aesthetic synonymous with Yoneda's source material, maintaining a focus on complex character psychology and the gritty underbelly of the yakuza underworld. Directed by Kaori Makita, the project was designed to expand the franchise's cinematic footprint, earning praise from fans of the series for its faithful preservation of the manga's nuanced art style and tense, introspective tone.
