Where it came from
Uma no Shippo Buta no Shippo, which translates to Horse's Tail, Pig's Tail, was a long-running educational variety program produced by NHK. Premiering in the mid-1980s, the show was designed for younger audiences, focusing on fostering curiosity about the natural world and animal behavior through a blend of live-action footage and engaging segments.
The program is remembered for its approachable, gentle aesthetic, which was characteristic of NHK's educational children's block during that era. By prioritizing observation and slow-paced storytelling, the series sought to instill a sense of wonder in viewers. It remains a nostalgic touchstone for those who grew up in Japan during the late Showa and early Heisei periods, reflecting the era's commitment to high-quality public service broadcasting for children.
