Umauma Ramen

Umauma Ramen is a fictional instant noodle brand featured in the long-running NHK educational program Ojarumaru. Created as a recurring gag within the show's quirky aesthetic, the packaging typically features the show's distinct character art style, reflecting the whimsical, surreal tone of the series directed by Akitaro Daichi. It serves as a visual shorthand for the lazy, lighthearted lifestyle of the titular character, Ojarumaru, who often consumes the product in lieu of more formal meals.

The design of the ramen packaging leans into the tropes of 1990s and 2000s Japanese convenience store branding, utilizing bold colors and exaggerated typography to create a sense of familiarity for the audience. While it remains a fictional product within the narrative, its presence has been solidified through various pieces of tie-in merchandise produced by NHK Enterprises, allowing fans to own physical replicas of the noodles that exist in Ojarumaru's Heian-era-meets-modern-day world.
