Where it came from
You're Under Arrest: Fast & Furious was produced by Studio DEEN and released in 2001 as a second television season following the popularity of Kosuke Fujishima’s original manga and the preceding 1996 series. It continues the story of Natsumi Tsujimoto and Miyuki Kobayakawa, two police officers working for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, focusing on their daily lives and high-speed patrol duties in the Bokuto Precinct. The production aimed to balance lighthearted workplace comedy with technical enthusiasm for automotive mechanics and police procedural elements.
The character designs retained the charm of the original manga while reflecting the aesthetic shift typical of early 2000s animation. Directed by Junji Nishimura, the series was well-received by fans of the seinen genre who appreciated its grounded portrayal of camaraderie and the meticulous attention paid to the vehicles featured in the show. It remains a hallmark of the slice-of-life police genre, praised for its focus on character development over excessive dramatization.
