Where it came from
Yuri Seijin Naoko-san was released in 2010 as a two-part original video animation series produced by the studio ufotable. Based on the manga by Kashio, the project serves as a comedic homage to the science fiction and magical girl genres, centering on an alien princess who arrives on Earth and develops a deep, romantic fascination with her human host. The production reflects the studio's interest in experimental storytelling during this period, blending slapstick humor with the aesthetic sensibilities common to mid-2000s light novel and manga adaptations.
The character designs and direction prioritize a playful, exaggerated style intended to mirror the source material's surreal narrative beats. By leaning into the 'yuri' subgenre, the creators aimed to subvert traditional extraterrestrial encounter tropes, framing the alien invasion as a chaotic domestic entanglement. While it remains a niche entry in the studio's filmography, it is noted by fans for its kinetic animation quality and its commitment to the eccentric tone established by the original manga.
