British Warship Recognition : the Perkins Identification Albums : Volume VI

The Perkins Identification Albums represent the culmination of a lifelong obsession by Richard Perkins, who began documenting British warships in the mid-twentieth century. Compiled during an era when naval technology was shifting rapidly, these albums were created to provide a systematic and rigorous visual guide for identifying vessels that were otherwise difficult to distinguish for the uninitiated observer. Perkins, a meticulous draftsman, sought to capture the subtle variations in superstructure, armament, and silhouettes that defined the Royal Navy fleet, turning private research into a definitive reference for maritime historians.

This specific volume, published by Pen & Sword in 2018, serves as a contemporary reprint of Perkins's original, hand-annotated collections. The design maintains the integrity of the archival material, prioritizing clarity and technical accuracy over decorative flair, which has earned it significant respect within the naval enthusiast community. It is regarded less as a coffee-table book and more as a foundational research tool, valued for the author's ability to synthesize thousands of hours of observation into a coherent, accessible format for students of naval architecture.
