British Warship Recognition : the Perkins Identification Albums : Volume III

This volume is part of a monumental series based on the lifelong work of Richard Perkins, a dedicated maritime historian and enthusiast. Perkins spent decades meticulously compiling thousands of photographs, sketches, and detailed observations of warships from the late 19th century through the post-war era. His goal was to create the definitive visual record for identifying vessels, a task that required an extraordinary level of patience and access to naval archives.

Originally produced as private albums, these documents remained relatively obscure until their archival value was recognized by naval historians. The Pen & Sword publication represents an effort to preserve Perkins’s exhaustive research for a modern audience. The design prioritizes clarity and technical accuracy, reflecting the author’s background in precise naval documentation and his commitment to ensuring that even minor class variations in warship design were captured and categorized for future generations.
