Where it came from
Dinosaur Cove was launched in 2008 as a children's adventure series written by Rex Stone, a pseudonym for the author Helen Moss. Designed to capture the imaginations of early readers, the series focuses on two young protagonists, Jamie and Tom, who discover a hidden, prehistoric world beneath their local coastal town. The books were conceived as a way to combine accessible, fast-paced storytelling with educational interest in paleontology, blending narrative thrills with factual information about various dinosaur species.
The series gained significant popularity for its approachable format, which features bold, dynamic illustrations that bring the prehistoric settings to life. The design choices, including larger font sizes and engaging diagrams, were specifically tailored for newly independent readers, helping the books become a staple in school libraries and home collections alike. The franchise's success stems from its ability to maintain a consistent tone of wonder and exploration while staying grounded in the excitement of a boys' adventure genre.
